Life ban for former Ghanaian FA president

Former Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi has been banned for life by Fifa for various violations of their code of ethics, including bribery and corruption.

Nyantakyi, who also held posts with Fifa and the Confederation of African Football (Caf), was pictured engaging in acts corruption by controversial undercover journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

He was filmed accepting a $65,000 bribe from an undercover reporter pretending to be a businessman from a Middle Eastern company wanting to invest in Ghanaian football.

The former football administrator was among dozens of African officials exposed in Anas’s documentary “Number 12”.

Life ban

After Anas’ documentary was released earlier this year, Fifa launched an investigation against Nyantakyi.

A statement by the governing body published on Tuesday reads: "The adjudicatory chamber found Mr Nyantakyi guilty of having violated art. 19 (Conflicts of interest), art. 21 (Bribery and corruption) and art. 22 (Commission) of the FIFA Code of Ethics, 2012 edition. As a consequence, Mr Nyantakyi is banned for life from all football-related activities (administrative, sports or any other) at both national and international level. Additionally, a fine in the amount of CHF 500,000 has been imposed on Mr Nyantakyi."

"The decision was notified to Mr Nyantakyi today, and the ban comes into force immediately."

Nyantakyi has strongly rejected any wrongdoing and has already instituted three legal actions against Anas in the law courts of Ghana.
