Martínez: Real Madrid haven't made approach, says Belgian FA

The Royal Belgian Football Association (KBVB) says it has not been approached by Real Madrid over Belgium manager Roberto Martínez, the local publication Le Soir reported today.

Reports in Belgium of Real Madrid approach for Martínez

This follows reports in other Belgian media outlets, such as Het Nieuwsblad, which claim that Madrid "have made contact with Martínez's camp" with a view to the 45-year-old replacing the sacked Julen Lopetegui as head coach.

A KBVB spokesperson told EFE on Tuesday that Madrid must reach an agreement with the body if they are to take Martínez to the Bernabéu, but would not make any comment on any possible clauses in the Spaniard's contract allowing him to walk away from his Belgium commitment early.

Martínez, who is under contract with the 'Red Devils' until 2020, told the Belgian outlet VTM yesterday that he would not "waste time" discussing rumours linking him with the Madrid job, which was handed to Santiago Solari on a caretaker basis in the wake of Lopetegui's sacking on Monday.

Led Belgians to best ever World Cup finish in summer

Martínez signed an extended deal as Belgium boss after leading the country to third place at the 2018 World Cup in Russia - the side's best ever finish at the tournament.
