Real Madrid could recover Lunin and loan him to another club

During the past three months the goalkeeper has played just one game for Leganés - the Cup tie against Rayo. Manuel Pellegrino prefers Ivan Cuéllar in goal.

Real Madrid could recover Lunin and loan him to another club

Real Madrid are considering bringing Andriy Lunin back from his loan spell in the winter transfer window. The Ukrainian goalkeeper is out on loan at Leganés but has hardly played with the Pepineros and that wasn't quite what Madrid had in mind when they decided to farm the young keeper out. Rather than getting to grips with the Spanish game and gaining experience, Lunin is stagnating.

Should Madrid decide to retrieve the player in January, it would be with the idea of loaning him out again - to a club where he would be guaranteed playing time. If they allow him to see out his loan stint at Leganés, it could turn out to be a season written off for a promising young goalkeeper who Madrid paid 8.5 million euros for at the start of the summer.

Lunin: just one game in three months

So far, Lunin has only played one game for Leganés. He featured in the starting XI in the Copa del Rey meeting with Rayo Vallecano but before than, he had gone 81 days without any action at all - neither for Leganés nor Ukraine. National team coach Andriy Shevchenko included Lunin in both of his lists during the most recent two international breaks, but in the end he wasn't used. He was last in action for Madrid back on 11 August, coming on for the last 15 minutes of the Trofeo Bernabéu against AC Milan. He joined Leganés a couple of weeks later but has failed to win over Mauricio Pellegrino who has stuck with Iván Cuéllar as his first choice goalkeeper. In the meantime, Lunin will just have to wait for opportunities as and when they arrive. His next chance could be Lega's Copa del Rey return leg tie against Rayo on 5 December but if the team are knocked out of the competition, opportunities to break into the side my dry up completely.
