Fifa appoints normalization committee to run the Madagascar FA
According to the world’s football governing body, the current administration carried out an illegitimate electoral process.
Fifa decided to appoint a normalization committee to run the affairs of Madagascar’s Football Federation (FMF).
According to a statement published on Monday by the world’s football governing body, it is disbanding the current administration due to the FA’s electoral process which was “not carried out in accordance with the regulatory requirements applicable to the members of Fifa.”
The mandate of the committee will include organizing new elections and identifying “legitimate candidates” for the FA’s general assembly.
Joint mission with Caf
Fifa will work along with the Confederation of African Football (Caf) to identify who should make up the normalization committee.
The committee is expected to conclude its mandate on 12 May 2019. It will also act as an electoral commission and none of its members will be eligible for any positions in the elections.
Last month, Madagascar qualified for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, in what is to be their first appearance ever in the competition.
Dominican Republic FA also intervened
A normalization committee was also appointed to run the affairs of the Dominican Republic Football Association (Fedofutbol), after its president, Mr. Osiris Guzman, was banned for 10 years last month by the Fifa Ethics Committee.
He had been running Fedofutbol since 1998, and was found guilty of bribery and accepting gifts and other benefits.
