The final of the Copa Libertadores between River Plate and Boca Juniors could be played at the Santiago Bernabéu. The biggest derby in world football and one of the two biggest continental finals (with the Metropolitano hosting the Champions League final) could be played in the Spanish capital with the deal 90% done. The game would be played on the 8th or 9th of December.

FIFA called the Spanish Football Federation on Thursday to throw out the idea to them with the Copa Libertadores final not having a home after the bus attack on Saturday that saw the original fixture postponed. They have not been able to reach agreement as to when and where to play the game but the possibility of a foreign venue was floated with Doha mentioned as a potentiality along with Asuncion, Paraguay.

Deal to play Copa Libertadores Final almost done

After several phone calls in which even the Argentine president, Mauricio Macri, the former president of Boca, took part, the two clubs accepted the proposal to play at Real Madrid's stadium. Luis Rubiales was also on hand to make sure the deal moved along.

The president of CONMEBOL, Alenjandro Dominguez, has thanked Rubiales for his mediation while FIFA's president, Gianni Infantino, also confirmed that he would attend the game in Madrid.
