Real Madrid confirm Bale injury
After a year and three months without releasing a medical statement on Gareth Bale, Real Madrid confirm the Grade 1 soleus injury to their attacker.
Santiago Solari will be without Gareth Bale for at least 15 days after the attacker picked up a soleus injury against Villarreal on Thursday night. The Welsh player underwent tests on Saturday and the club have confirmed he suffered a Grade 1 soleus injury on his left leg but did not give a timeline on his recovery.
He could miss games against Real Sociedad, Real Betis (13 January), and both legs of the last 16 clash in the Copa del Rey against Leganés. His return could come ahead of the Sevilla game although the club say his injury will be assessed and would not put a concrete date on a potential comeback.
The Argentine manager said at his press conference ahead of Real Madrid's first game at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2019 that the injury "was something light" and that he was hoping for "a quick return" given Bale's importance.
Real Madrid will play seven times in total in January and that would jump to nine if they overcome Leganés in the Copa. After Real Sociedad, Betis, and Sevilla, Real Madrid play Espanyol and there could be a two-legged Copa quarter-final either side of that game should they win their last 16 tie.
