Dortmund lead Bayern by six points in the winter break, with Bayern returning to action on January 18 at Hoffenheim and Dortmund playing the next day at RB Leipzig.

"It is still six points, we must try to make up that deficit as quickly as possible," Kovac told reporters at their training camp in Doha.

"We will not work with a lot of ballyhoo but we have to do our homework. We can and want to increase the pressure on Dortmund with performance and good results."

Kovac said he plans to stick to the team that got five straight wins in the last games of 2018. The coach had given up more rotation after several setbacks which saw Bayern nine points behind Dortmund at times.
