Brahim and other promising youngsters that City have sold for €150m

Manchester City is seen as a big spending club that has forked out hundreds of millions of pounds to acquire some of the biggest stars in world football. But the Sky Blues have also been quite active in recent years in the selling of underutilized young players, for whom the club has collected a particularly tidy sum in total.

The most recent example is Brahim Díaz, who was sold last week to Real Madrid for 24 million euros. Díaz’s contract with City ended in June and the young Spaniard had no plans to renew at a club where he has featured for a total of just 49 minutes this season.

Díaz features on a list published by British newspaper The Daily Mail of 13 players whom the Premier League champions have sold for a total of more than 153 million euros – which is a particular achievement considering that between them, these players had a total of 33 starts at City.

Twenty of those 33 starts were handed to Kelechi Iheanacho, the most utilized player by City on the list, who scored 21 goals for the club before being sold to Leicester for 28 million euros in the summer of 2017.

Another standout name on the list is 18-year-old Jadon Sancho, who is currently shining at Borussia Dortmund this season, with an impressive seven goals and 10 assists to his name. The German club paid City 10 million euros for the English teenager in August 2017, which now seems like a bargain considering his current market value is set at 70 million euros.

The other big sales on the list (see below) include Angus Gunn, sold to Southampton for 15 million euros, Enes Unal, who left for Villarreal for 10 million euros, and Jason Denayer, who completed a 10-million-euro move to Lyon last August.
