Ángel Correa’s turbulent transfer saga ends as River Plate seals record deal

The long‑running drama between Tigres and Ángel Correa is officially over. The Argentine forward is heading to River Plate, closing a transfer saga that had dominated headlines for weeks.
River Plate announced the move on its social media channels, confirming that the 2022 World Cup champion will undergo his medical exam in Buenos Aires before signing his contract.
The club stated: “River Plate has reached a full transfer agreement with Tigres UANL for Ángel Correa. In the coming hours, the forward will complete his medical evaluation and finalize his contract to officially join the club.”
Correa is already en route to Argentina, returning home after more than a decade abroad. Once he lands, he’ll complete the standard medical tests and sign a deal through December 2029, becoming Eduardo Coudet’s marquee addition ahead of the knockout rounds of the Copa Sudamericana.
The transfer closes a chaotic chapter filled with wild rumors — from fabricated threats to unrealistic financial figures — that swirled around the negotiation. In the end, River Plate paid roughly $20 million, making Correa the most expensive sale in Tigres’ history. The club plans to use the record fee to strengthen its roster for the Apertura 2026.
