REAL MADRID

Real Madrid: Vallejo adds to injury list ahead of Leganés game

The central defender suffered a fourth muscle strain of the season and will be out for the Copa del Rey game, for which Real have a very thin squad.

Update:
Real Madrid: Vallejo adds to injury list ahead of Leganés game

Jesús Vallejo limped out of Real Madrid’s training session on Monday with a hamstring problem, the central defender’s fourth muscle injury during a season in which he has been limited to just two games, in the Copa against Melilla and the Champions League against CSKA.

Vallejo left the training pitches in Valdebebas in tears as it became apparent he would not be able to play any part in the return leg of the Copa del Rey tie against Leganés, which Real lead 3-0 from the first game. Given the injury list Santiago Solari faces, it was almost certain Vallejo would get 90 minutes against the Cucumber Growers.

As well as Vallejo, Marcos Llorente, Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos, Thibaut Courtois and Javi Sánchez are all out with muscle issues, a worrying trend for the club to consider.

Solari to look to youth against Leganés

During Monday’s session, Solari called up Castilla youngsters Manu Hernando, Jaime Seoane, Álex Martín, Martín Calderón y Gorka Zabarte and Juvenil A keeper Adrián Rodríguez as he ponders his squad for Leganés. All of the canteranos played under Solari and the Real boss has proven he is happy to place his faith in the club’s stock, with seven of the players who featured against Betis on Sunday evening coming through the ranks at the club.

Solari will now have to form a squad for the Leganés game in the absence of Marco Asensio, Marcos Llorente, Toni Kroos, Gareth Bale, Thibaut Courtois, Karim Benzema and Vallejo, while hoping that some of his key players will be back in time for the league match against Sevilla this weekend.

In the meantime all eyes will be on Isco on Wednesday in Butarque as the midfielder's exile under Solari continues. The Spain international did not get off the bench against Betis and seems to be the last player Solari is willing to turn to but he will surely start against Leganés alongside the reserves and walking wounded.
