Javi Sánchez has emerged as one of few bright points in Real Madrid’s 2018-19 campaign. The 21-year-old defender started the season as the captain of reserve side Castilla but has gradually worked his way into Santiago Solari’s first-team plans and has made appearances in LaLiga, Copa del Rey and Champions League.

Interest in Sánchez has piqued as a result and both Valladolid and Real Sociedad have made inquiries, the former looking for a loan deal and the latter a permanent transfer. Premier League side Bournemouth are also pondering an offer but Madrid have given no indication they are willing to sell, particularly given Real’s defensive issues and Jesús Vallejo’s injury problems.

The Bernabéu board are convinced they have a future Spain international on their hands and have taken the necessary steps to ward off potential suitors: a contract until 2022 and a release clause of 300 million euros, similar to that of some senior players.
