Update:

Led by Spanish coach Julen Lopetegui, Al Annabi, the two-time reigning Asian champions head into the 2026 World Cup with a considerable heightened sense of ambition, having earned their place through direct qualification for the first time under the guidance of manager the Spaniard.

Pitted in a balanced but competitive Group B alongside co-hosts Canada, Switzerland, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Qatar hold an outside chance of progressing to the knockout stages if they can carry their continental dominance onto the global stage.

In a bid to progress to the second stage, Qatar have retained a core of 14 veterans from their 2022 campaign, anchored by their iconic, most-capped captain Hassan Al-Haydos in midfield. The primary attacking spark rests on the shoulders of the lethal duo that spearheaded their Asian Cup triumphs: creative talisman Akram Afif on the flank and prolific striker Almoez Ali—the top scorer across the entire AFC qualification phase with 12 goals—giving Qatar the established chemistry needed to challenge the Group B field.
