Catalan press lap up Madrid's "different kind of Treble"
Real Madrid's elimination from three competitions in the space of a week was not lost on the local press in Barcelona, who claim it's "the end of an era".
"Madrid do the treble" was the headline on today's edition of L'Esportiu, it's sarcastic tone typifying the reaction in Catalunya to the worst week in Real Madrid's history following two defeats to Barça at the Bernabéu (0-3 and 0-1) followed by a 1-4 thumping to Ajax. In less than a week, Madrid have found themselves knocked out of the Copa del Rey and Champions League and are 12 points behind the leaders in LaLiga - a deficit which will be nigh on impossible to make up in the remaining 12 games.
Ajax "Chorrea" Real Madrid
Elsewhere in Catalunya, Sport summed up Madrid's troubles as "the end of an era" noting that Frenkie de Jong's Ajax "battered" Solari's team and that being dumped out of the competition they have won for the last three years as "embarrassing". Mundo Deportivo ran with the headline: "Bugger all" adding that Madrid crashed out "with a loud bang" against a giant Ajax and that the aftermatch is sure to have consequences at the capital club.
