Real Madrid miss out on €45 million for Champions League elimination
According to a report by UEFA, Real Madrid could have pocketed €45 million for getting to the final and winning it but they have lost more than just pride with defeat to Ajax.
Real Madrid's inability to repeat the European success they achieved in the last three season means they will miss out on the €45 million. They failed to reach the quarter-final after defeat at home to Ajax on Tuesday night and the ramifications will hurt their revenue.
According to a new UEFA report, the elimination will cost them €45 million, which does not include the money from sponsorship money or money from matchdays at the Santiago Bernabéu, which will be no more this season on Champions League nights.
The same report says qualifying for the Champions League would see a club earn €10.5 million, the semi-finals would see a €12 million windfall along with another €15 million for reaching the Champions League final with €4 million more for the winner. Winning the competition would also include €3.5 million for the European Super Cup.
