REAL MADRID

Florentino wants Mourinho but nobody supports the idea

Florentino Pérez wants Mourinho back at the Bernabéu but he is meeting resistance from his directors as they push for Joachim Low given Mou's baggage.

José Mourinho, futurible para el banquillo del Real Madrid.

Real Madrid have decided on Solari's faith. After the row between Florentino Pérez and Sergio Ramos, the president of the club is even more convinced that they need a 'hard hand' to fix the dressing room and Pérez believes Mourinho is the man for the job. He has put his name forward along with Zinedine Zidane but there are problems with both.

José Ángel Sánchez, the general director and the man responsible for sporting matters, is not on board with bringing Mourinho back. The Portuguese has outstanding issues with some players in the dressing room including Ramos, Benzema and Marcelo. And the Bernabéu faithful fell out with Mourinho too at the end. In his last season, Real Madrid lost at home to Atlético in the Copa, were elminated in the semi-finals of the Champions League and were 15 points behind Barcelona in the league.

Zidane is the next name broached but he cut Florentino off when he offered him the chance to return. The previous manager has Juventus on his agenda (Allegri is leaving in the summer, it seems) and then French side. Various directors have advised the president to choose Jogi Low but he has Mou on the brain and is unwillingto change his mind.

Mourinho's record since leaving Madrid

Mourinho's record since leaving Real Madrid does not make for positive reading. His first campaign back at Chelsea, 2013-14, ended without a single title: he had 31 wins, ten draws and ten defeats. They finished third in the Premir League and Atlético eliminated them in the Champions League last four. The next season was his best since leaving Madrid when he won a double (Premier League and League Cup) but it went downhill after that as he was sacked in his third season.

After that, he signed with United and won a Europa League, Charity Shield and the League Cup. He didn't win a single trophy in his second season before it all came undone in his third year when he was sacked before being replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has brought the club into an unlikely quart-final after beating PSG.
