Moyes reveals how close he was to signing Bale and Kroos for Manchester United

David Moyes took over Manchester United in the summer of 2013 after Alex Ferguson called it a career as the manager of the club. It went awry from the start with many of Moyes' targets in that transfer window moving elsewhere. He told BeInSports just how close he came to signing the likes of Kroos, Bale and Fabregas for United.

That summer, they ended up with Marouane Fellaini and Moyes says he was just one of many players they wanted to sign and concedes the Belgian wasn't his first target.

"We thought we had a chance of getting Gareth Bale," he said. "We hoped we could talk Bale out of going to Real Madrid because it was already, kind of, half done. We offered more money, we tried to entice him."

Moyes was asked by Richard Keyes is they had a helicopter and says they did. United were trying to swoop for the Welsh attacker but lost out in the end.

"Cesc Fabregas was very close" too and Moyes says "I spoke to him and I hoped to bring him from Barcelona" but says every manager has situations like that and "hard luck stories" without wanting to focus on the close calls.

"I had met Toni Kroos, during the season, and agreed he would come to Man United before he went to Real Madrid but somewhere in there I lost my job and it meant that Toni went elsewhere," he said.
