Neymar and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi are said to have a close relationship. However the first test of that relationship has reportedly arisen because of contract issues surrounding Neymar’s team mate and close friend Dani Alves.

Supported by coach Thomas Tuchel, Neymar has confronted Al-Khelaifi this Thursday in relation to the deadlock in contract talks with Alves, after the Brazilian defender had been promised a new deal by the PSG president.

The 35-year-old’s current contract ends in June and PSG have reportedly offered him a one-year deal where his salary would depend on number of matches played. Alves is refusing to accept that agreement and has threatened to walk away at the end of the season.

In his meeting with Al-Khelaifi, Neymar has demanded that Alves remain at the club, emphasizing that “he feels better in Paris” with his friend around. Tuchel, on his part, has also come out in defence of Alves and has stressed to the club’s hierarchy that the 35-year-old’s enthusiasm and experience is of “great importance to the group”.
