Chelsea chairman expects Pulisic to raise their popularity in the US
The Blues chairman hopes the arrival of the American international will boost the team's United States audience once he lands in Stamford Bridge.
Christian Pulisic signed with Chelsea for 73 million dollars during the winter transfer window. However, the Blues sent him back to Borussia Dortmund on loan for the remainder of the season. Bruce Buck, Chelsea's chairman, expects the arrival of the 20-year-old right winger at Stamford Bridge to boost the club's profile in the US.
Manchester United hold the highest average of viewers in the United States for the Premier League teams: 630,000 on NBC networks, above Arsenal, with 573,000 viewers. Chelsea is 4th on the list of most-watched English clubs in the US with 534,000, ahead of both Manchester City and Tottenham.
"The surveys tell us we're very strong on both coasts, but we have some work to do in the middle, but in round terms I think we're doing as well as any other big club," Buck said.
"Personable boy"
The United States international can't play for Chelsea in the charity game against the New England Revolution dubbed "The Final Whistle on Hate," on 15 May, but will have a role in the 'Blues' promotional efforts after he joins them in July.
"He's a personable boy well-liked in his country, so of course I would expect and think he will be helpful when we come here and play some friendly matches, which is what our objective is for the summer," Buck added.
