Frenkie de Jong left Ajax's game game against Excelsior after just 28 minutes grabbing his hamstring as he walked down the tunnel with a member of the medical staff, making him a doubt for the Juventus game on Tuesday night.

Ajax led 3-1 at half-time with Klaas Jan Huntelaar (2) and Dusan Tadic getting on the scoresheet but the shine will be taken off any victory if De Jong misses the return leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Juventus. The game hangs in the balance after the first leg with Ronaldo scoring the opener, an away goal, followed by a David Neres leveller.

Juve hold slight advantage over Ajax

Juventus hold a slight advantage in the tie but Ajax will be confident given they played their opponents off the park for long spells in Amsterdam last wednesday.

De Jong will leave Ajax at the end of the season after signing with Barcelona but he is still one of the most omportant players for Ten Hag's side. He was replaced by Jurgen Ekkelenkamp and while Ajax fans will be hoping it was just precaution, the images of him leaving the field grabbing the top of his hamstring are worrying ahead of the biggest game of their season.
