Ianis Hagi: Sevilla tracking the "Romanian Xavi"
The son of the legendary Gheorghe Hagi has been in excellent form for Viitorul and is attracting interest from LaLiga, Ajax, Anderlecht and Standard Liege.
Ianis Hagi, like his father Gheorge a creative midfielder with an eye for goal, is on the radar of Sevilla, Anderlecht, Ajax and Standard Liege and is likely to attract more suitors this summer after a fine season for Viitorul, the side owned and managed by his father.
The “Maradona of the Carpathians”, as Hagi was known, has not been shy about handing his son a, epithet and has dubbed the 20-year-old the “Romanian Xavi.”
“He can be a top player because he is intelligent and has a lot of personality,” Hagi told Telekom Sport.
Hagi capped by Romania
Hagi joined his father at Viitorul last summer after a two-year spell at Fiorentina and has chipped in with 10 goals and seven assists for his side. He has also been capped three times by Romania this season.
According to reports in Turkey, where Hagi senior played for Galatasaray, Sevilla sporting director Monchi has identified Ianis as one of the players the Liga side will pursue this summer.
