Moments after it was announced that the iconic, long-serving delegate Agustín Herrerín had passed away, Madrid players past and present paid their respects.

There was some sad news at Real Madrid today as it was confirmed that long-serving delegate Agustín Herrerín, the Bernabéu stadium's 'guardian' for 18 seasons, had passed away aged 86. Herrerín held several positions during 50 years of service at Real Madrid and was a favourite with many players. Moments after the news broke, many players past and present took to social media to express their sadness.

Real Madrid stars remember Herrerín

Sergio Ramos wrote: "We've lost a dear friend and a model professional - a delegate who set an example for others to follow and always with a smile. A great madridista has left us. RIP.

Iker Casillas was always close to Herrerín since he joined the club as a boy. He paid tribute on his Twitter account: "Today is a very sad day for all of us who appreciated Agustín Herrerín 'Rosy cheeks' as we used to affectionately call him (El Colorao). A great person, great madridista and great friend! My condolences to his family. RIP

Club ambassador Álvaro Arbeloa added: "Today, our beloved Agustín Herrerín - a great madridista and a fabulous person who we, the players, were very fond of and hold a special affection for. My deepest condolences to his wonderful family. You were always one of us and will continue to be so. Rest in Peace.

Karim Benzema wrote: "A unique, one-off madridista. Thank you for all the affection you always showed all of us. So long Agustín!
