Vinicius' return to action delayed
Zidane stated that the Brazilian will play no role in Thursday's game given the long duration of his absence following injury.
Vinicius' planned comeback will take a little longer after Real Madrid coach Zidane confirmed that the Brazilian will not secure playing time in Getafe. The Brazilian sustained an ankle injury during Madrid's 1-4 home defeat to Ajax in the Champions League quarter-final (return leg) on March 5th.
The player has made a solid recovery and despite a return to full training with the rest of the squad, Zidane felt that it would be hasty to rush the winger back to into full match action. Following the Getafe away fixture, Real Madrid's next game is on Sunday evening in Vallecas against Rayo Vallecano and that may be the scene for the Brazilian to make his comeback.
Objective: Copa América
Vinicius Jr was selected for the Brazil squad ahead of the injury ahead of the March friendly games against Panamá and the Czech Republic before the injury jettisoned his ambition of securing his first full international cap.
The Brazilian now has his sights firmly set on the 2019 Copa America which takes place in his native Brazil running from June 14 through to July 7th.
