Benzema closing in on a record held by Quini, Kodro and Messi
The three players are the only ones who have managed to score in nine consecutive league games in Spain. Benzema is on eight ahead on tonight's trip to Getafe.
Tonight in Getafe, Karim Benzema will have a chance to write his name alongside three other LaLiga legends and share a competition record. The Real Madrid striker goes into the game after scoring in each of the last eight league games and now he is just one goal away from equalling the record, jointly held by three players. The great Quini scored in nine consecutive games for Sporting de Gijón in Weeks 13-22 between 17 December 1978 and 21 January 1979. Meho Kodro the next player to achieve, scoring in nine matchdays on the trot for Real Sociedad between 19 December 1993 and 6 March 1994. The last player to do it was Barcelona's Leo Messi with goals in every league game from 27 February 2010 until 21 March 2010.
Benzema holds the club record
Benzema's already overtaken the club record at Real Madrid. Juan Monjardín (1926), Santillana (1980) and Fernando Morientes (1999) managed to score in seven consecutive games for Los Blancos but even then, not exclusively in the league but taking into account other competitions.
Karim the chief supplier
Out of the 12 goals the team has scored since Zidane's return, eight of them have come from Benzema. The other four goals have been supplied by Isco (two), Gareth Bale and Dani Ceballos. The last game in which Benzema failed to find the net was the Week 28 meeting with Celta on 19 March in which Isco and Bale were on target.
