Manchester United are preparing for a rebuild, and although they still don't know how much money they will have for this summer, plans to reduce expenses have already begun.

The first on the list is Alexis Sánchez, as he's the highest paid player in the Premier League, but despite his salary of 34 million dollars a year his performances have been far from consistent. The Red Devils want to cut their wage bill to attract new players, which is why the owners see Alexis' exit as the key to achieving that.

According to the Daily Mail, United are willing to pay half Sánchez's salary and send the Chilean out on loan, leaving the other half available to get new players that could bring better performances. The only condition the Red Devils have is that Alexis can't join direct competitors, and they would rather have him outside of England.

MLS

One of the possible leagues that could interest Alexis is the MLS, as it has grown considerably in recent years and has players such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney, Carlos Vela and Nani.

Bayern Munich's Arjen Robben and Robert Lewandowski have also expressed an interest in going to America, and United would be in favour of sending the attacker across the pond.

Alexis' profile could see him join teams like New York City FC, as they are seeking to add a new star and attacking spearhead in the wake of David Villa's departure. LAFC and LA Galaxy are also suitable as they have purchasing power, but that would mean they'll need to lose one of their designated players. Nashville SC and Inter Miami CF could be an option for next year once they have made their 2020 debut.

Alexis Sánchez

The Red Devils invested around 92 million dollars in bringing Alexis from Arsenal, but since then he has played 44 games and scored just five goals. His contract expires in 2022 and a good year could easily increase his market value, which would mean United could recover their investment.
