Xabi Alonso offered role at Real Sociedad with view to becoming manager

Jokin Aperribay has offered Xabi Alonso a return to Real Sociedad but not as the manager of txuri-urdin. At least not yet. The president of the club has started to invest in the structure of the yourh system and Alonso would play a role in the development of players, with that role not yet being defined. The option of coaching Real Sociedad's B team or C team is also on the table. He has said in the past that "if I coach, I would like to return to Real Sociedad" and he has the perfect opportunity to do that this summer.

The head decision maker at the club met with the former Eibar, Real Madrid and Liverpool player along with director of football, Roberto Olabe, at his home in Hondarribia. At that informal meeting, they wanted to get a feel for what he has planned next as he starts his career on the sideline. At present, he is the manager of Real Madrid's Cadete side and they just finished the season which allowed the former midfielder to spend some days in the north of Spain with his parents.

The offer was made with a view towards the future as Imanol Alguacil has a contract in place and both the president and the sporting director are happy with his work. The idea is that Xabi Alonso would continue to gain experience but on the bench at Real Sociedad with one of the academy teams as opposed to at Real Madrid's academy. Eventually, however, Jokin Aperribay, does want him to become the manager of the club after contacting him last summer to ask if he would like to join the sporting directorship team. The offer this time, however, is different: come to La Real and gain experience with the manager's job at Anoeta being the end goal.
