Josef Martínez getting back on track with Atlanta United
The Atlanta United striker is getting back to his 2018 form that took the 'Five Stripes' all the way to the MLS Cup and to the championship last season.
Atlanta United striker Josef Martínez set a historic record in the 2018 season by scoring just under a goal per game to claim the MLS-MVP.
But things changed for him in the 2019 season, with Martínez scoring only once in his first five games of the tournament, and the Five Stripes not showing the power that took them to the MLS Cup championship last year.
However, dry spells don't last forever, and Josef Martínez seems to be gaining his old glory, with three goals in his last three games, taking him to a total of four goals this season.
Is the Golden Boot still possible?
Martínez scored a double in the match against Sporting Kansas City on Sunday, the first was a poacher's tap in, while the second was a fine finish into the top corner after a counter-attack.
With this streak, he's sneaking into the race for the 2019 Golden Boot, seven goals behind Carlos Vela and five behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the moment, but that doesn't mean you can count out Josef Martínez, as he can make up the ground fast.
