The 2019 MLS All-Star Game has lost one of its biggest stars as Antoine Griezmann announced this weekend's match against Levante would be his last game as an Atlético Madrid player.

This year's All-Star Game is scheduled for 31 July in Orlando, Florida, where the 2014 and 2016 Champions League finalists will take on the stars of the American League, which would have provided an opportunity to watch Griezmann go head to head with his former Real Sociedad teammate and now captain of LAFC, Carlos Vela.

The 28-year old French striker is expected to join Barcelona and sent a farewell message to teammates and fans on Tuesday. "I have decided to leave, see other things, have other challenges and with great difficulty, this is what I feel, and I need; it's been five great years where I've won my first important trophies with a club."

Griezmann has been linked with the MLS in years past, specifically with David Beckham's Inter Miami CF project. A huge fan of American sports as displayed in social media posts, during an interview last year the Frenchman said: "I want to play in MLS, I'd like to finish my career there."
