Italian UCL positions to be determined on last day

Only Juventus and Napoli have guaranteed Champions League football next season with four sides fighting it out for the remaining two places.

Update:
Italian UCL positions to be determined on last day

Results in the penultimate week of the 2018-19 Serie A season will see four sides fighting it out for the two remaining places for next season's UEFA Champions League.

Only league winners Juventus and Carlo Ancelotti's Napoli have guaranteed a place in the competition next season with Atalanta, Inter, Milan and Roma having a chance of bagging the final places.

Atalanta (3rd) 66 points

Atalanta control their own destiny in claiming their first every place in Europe's top domestic competition. A win against mid table Sassuolo and the Bergamo side are in the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League. A draw or even defeat at home could still see Gasperini's side qualify, but La Dea would need other results to go their way.

Inter (4th) 66 points

A 4-1 defeat away to Napoli did little for Luciano Spaletti's side in their bid to confirm a UCL place. The Nerazzuri face relegation threatened Empoli at San Siro next weekend, knowing that a win will be enough to avoid looking at the live score ticker and hoping for favours elsewhere.

Milan (5th) 65 points

Despite a win at home to already relegated Frosinone, Milan will need other sides to slip up if they are to covet a place in the 2019-20 Champions League. Gattuoso's men travel to mid-table SPAL and will be looking at results from elsewhere to see if it's Champions or Europa League football for the Milanese side next year.

Milan do have a better head-to-head over Atalanta and Roma should the sides in question be tied on points but fall to city rivals Inter in this determining factor.

AS Roma (6th) 63 points

A dismal 0-0 draw in a rain-swept Mapei stadium against Sassuolo was a major set back for the side from the capital who now need for a series of results to conspire plus a hatful of goals in their last game in order for Ranieri's side to bag one of the remaining UCL places.

Roma welcome Parma to the Olimpico next weekend knowing fate is not in their own hands with the Giallorossi also tying with Inter and Atalanta on head-to-head (should the sides in question be level on points) and consequently trailing badly on goal difference to both black and blue clad sides. Milan also win out should both they tie with Roma. It's highly, highly unlikely we'll be hearing the Champions League anthem belt out at the Stadio Olimpico next season.
