De Ligt: Juventus push for defender with Ajax offer

The Italian champions look to steal a march on rival bidders Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Manchester United, according to Tuttosport.

The uncertainty about the future of Matthijs de Ligt rolls on. FC Barcelona had seemed to be best placed to take the young Dutch star, although the player's efforts for Ajax over the past season has seen his price tag reevaluated, and that could potentially prove to be an obstacle for the blaugrana, which could open the door for one of his other suitors.

Juventus target De Ligt full investment

As well as the Catalan side working on making a deal happen, Manchester United and Bayern Munich have also been said to be making enquiries. And on Monday, Italian paper Tuttosport reported that Juventus have made a formal offer to Ajax of 75 million euros, similar to the one that Barça were considering, and as per that of his compatriot, Frenkie de Jong. The highly-rated defender is seen as one of the successors to the famous BBC trio of Barzagli, Bonucci and Chiellini.

De Ligt has being quoted extensively over recent months and referred to the Premier League and LaLiga as 'great competitions', however, has not given any definitive clues as to where he'll be playing next season. This includes a potential stay in the Eredivisie - where his Ajax contract expires in 2021 - for at least another year. Barça signing his friend and teammate De Jong could tip the balance in favour of the Spanish champions, although he has said that he wants to focus on the qualifying matches for his national team before announcing his decision.
