Messi on his son Mateo: “He celebrates Real Madrid’s goals”

Barcelona star Leo Messi is well known for his historic rivalry with Real Madrid - as one for the players to have appeared in the most number of games and scored the most number of goals against them. And so you’d expect his offspring to support him and Barcelona to the maximum, but it turns out that’s not the case with his son Mateo (who'll turn four in September), as Messi revealed in an interview with TyC Sports.

Mateo Messi cheers on Real Madrid

“Sometimes the telly is on and he cheers Madrid’s goals. My son Tiago gets annoyed and Mateo cheers them to annoy him”, said the Argentina and Barcelona captain.

And it’s not just the rivalry with Real Madrid where Mateo likes to wind his dad and brother up. “We were playing at home and were going for a kick-about. Mateo said to me ‘You’re Barça and I’m Liverpool, cos I'll beat you’. He’s got a lot to learn” said Messi, laughing.
