David Beckham sells his shares in Inter Miami FC

David Beckham addresses the press announcing an MLS franchise in Miami

USA Today

The former England international has sold his shares in the new MLS franchise to two of the project partners, Cuban businessmen Jorge and José Mas.

Up to now, the new MLS franchise, Inter Miami FC, has also been known as David Beckham's new football club.

However, that will now change as the ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid star has decided to sell his assets to the Mas brothers, Jorge and José, co-owners of the team along with Bolivian Marcelo Claure, and Masayoshi Son.

AS USA has reported the transaction between Beckham and the Mas brothers. Although its sources did not reveal the figure involved, they confirmed that Beckham would remain the global face of the new MLS franchise.

The structure of Inter Miami will not be modified for now, as there will be no new investors and the plans of the franchise will remain intact, such as in relation to the new stadium construction, and the announcement of the first Designated Player in the coming weeks.

The birth of Inter Miami FC

The new MLS team has a very Latin-based backstory, as Bolivian entrepreneur Marcelo Claure has previously stated that it all started at a dinner party at the home of Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony in Los Angeles.

There he met Simon Fuller, who told him that his partner David Beckham intended to create a soccer team in the United States. And Claure's repsonse was: "I have the same dream and that it should be in Miami."

But Beckham and Claure's dream did not start to become a reality until the brothers Jorge and José Mas joined the project several months later. According to Claure, it was thanks to the Mas Santos brothers that the Inter Miami project was finally consolidated, as they had found the missing piece, a local partner who knew Miami very well and could complement what they had in mind.
