Desperate times call for most desperate measures. After a lost season, Real Madrid and Florentino Pérez have shook up the transfer marker with the largest investment in the squad in the history of the club. €298 million spent already. It is also the most significant response from Pérez after such a poor showing last season as he outspends the €175.5 million spend in 2013.

After the earthquake that shook Real Madrid last season, Florentino is creating a brand new Madrid in an effort to improve them in the short and medium term. The arrivals thus far include Rodrygo, Militao, Jovic, Hazard and Mendy. It is only July but it is already the most significant spend during his time in charge. And there are two reasons for that: need and the inflation of prices.

To balance out the massive spend, which will also include a midfielder (Eriksen, Pogba and Fabián all remain on the radar of the club), Madrid have to focus their attention on exits. Marcos Llorente has been sold and Mateo Kovacic too. They will say goodbye to Theo Hernández soo too along with Raúl de Tomás. In total, the have recouped €120 million. James is close to joining Napoli too as another chance to get some of that money they spent back.
