Remarkable progress being made on the Al-Bayt stadium
The Supreme Committee of Delivery and Legacy has shared images of the work being done at their 2022 venue in the city of Jor.
The Supreme Committee of Delivery and Legacy, which is responsible for organising the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, has published another collection of photos on its official page showing the remarkable progress that has been made with another of its venues, the Al-Bayt stadium in the city of Jor.
Al-Bayt is one of the eight stadiums that will host World Cup matches, two of which are already finished, namely Al-Janoub and Khalifa International. The roof of Al-bayt weighs around 1,600 tons, equivalent to 380 medium-sized cars, and each of the pillars stands at 94.4 metres, weighing between 82 and 104 tons. In accordance with safety regulations, the pillars were erected in stable weather conditions.
As one of the objectives of the Committee is to leave a legacy to benefit both the city's inhabitants and those of the country, Al-Bayt will offer commercial and recreational facilities. After 2022, the capacity of the stadium will be reduced to 30,000 instead of the 60,000 for the tournament. The upper part will be converted into a hotel and the removed seats donated to countries that lack a sporting infrastructure. This venue is scheduled to open at the end of 2019.
