Sebastián Abreu signs for Boston River - his 29th club
After a brief managerial role at Santa Tecla in El Salvador, the 42-year-old striker is back in action again after signing for the Uruguayan club.
Sebastián Abreu, commonly known as El Loco, has broken his own Guinness-recognised world record after signing for Boston River in his native Uruguay, the 29th professional club the 42-year-old striker has represented.
The former Uruguay international, who scored the winning penalty in his country’s controversial defeat of Ghana at the 2010 World Cup, had a brief stint in the dugout with Santa Tecla, winning the Copa El Salvador during his time there, but the lure of the pitch has proven too strong to resist and he will now strap his boots on again for the Uruguayan Primera División side.
The previous holder of the record was retired German goalkeeper Lutz Pfannenstiel, who played for 25 teams over the course of his career, and it seems unlikely that Abreu’s mark will ever be beaten.
