Atlético Madrid have announced the signing of Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier.

The 28-year-old right back has signed a three-year deal at the Wanda Metropolitano where he will slot into Diego Simeone's side to replace the outgoing Juanfran.

The defender flew to Madrid ahead of the anticiapted announcement and looks forward to a new chapter in his career in the red and white Atléti stripes.

Atlético were initially interested in the services of PSG's Meunier but the high asking price forced the club to look for alternatives. England international Trippier was another player highly rated by the Spanish side and initial approaches with Tottenham were positive in opening the door for the 28-year-old to embark on playing in LaLiga, with Los Colchoneros paying around 22 million euros for his signature.

Simeone's Atléti sqaud overhaul

With Diego Simeone losing Antonine Griezmann, Juanfran, Diego Godín, Lucas Hernandez and Rodri this summer, Atlético have been one of the most active clubs on the transfer market and the signing of Trippier brings their spend on new acquisitions to almost 220 million euros.

The English defender becomes the club's sixth summer signing, after Joao Felix (€126m, Benfica), Marcos Llorente (€30m, Real Madrid), Felipe (€20m, Porto); Renan Lodi (€20m, Club Athletico Paranaense), and Héctor Herrera (free, Porto).
