Víctor Valdés gets coaching career off to a winning start
Valdés oversaw his first game in charge of Barcelona's Under-19s who beat Bosc de Tosca 1-3. "The lads know I'm demanding but mistakes are allowed".
Víctor Valdés enjoyed a positive start to his coaching career with his Barcelona Under-19 team running out 1-3 winners in Saturday's friendly against CEF Bosc de Tosca at the Complex Esportiu Salou. Valdés, who returned to Barça this summer to join the youth academy coaching staff, said he is "just as intense as a coach" as he was when he was a player.
“As I’ve said before, I see myself as an administrator of talent, I try to manage the talent the players have and extract the best out of them," Valdés explained after the game. "And basically, I like good football. I like football that takes risks that is attacking and always sets out to win the match with the risks that go with that. We are a very dynamic side when the pitch opens us for us. And that’s what I ask of the players. Some have grasped that idea and others haven’t yet. I’m a very intense coach in that aspect and they know that the demands on them are high but that doesn’t mean they aren’t allowed to make mistakes”.
