LaLiga teams prioritise goals in the transfer market

Only Athletic Bilbao, Espanyol and Villarreal have not signed strikers this summer and 329 goals have changed hands during the transfer market.

LaLiga teams prioritise goals in the transfer market

Buying goalscorers has always been the priority in the transfer market but recently, teams are buying defenders for the price of strikers. De Ligt, Maguire and Lucas Hernández have all gone for prices once deemed unfathomable. Attackers, however, remain the players creating most of the drama this summer and the ones fans still pine for. This year, LaLiga's top six have bought strikers in the transfer market.

Only Athletic Bilbao, Espanyol and Villarreal have not signed strikers in recent months. Espanyol bought Matías Vargas, who scored five with Vélez, but his main function is not to get goals. The summer spending isn't over yet though and if they do end up selling Borja Iglesias to Real Betis, who remain heavily linked, they will enter the market in search of a replacement.

Mallorca, newly promoted, are the most active participants in the striker market with five arrivals who can score goals. Igor Zlatanovic scored 16 last season is one of their stand-out signings. Sevilla are another club looking to improve their goal tally with Dabbur and De Jong arriving in recent weeks. They landed 30 between them last season.

Barcelona and Atlético Madrid are the clubs with the biggest spend and the best return for their investment. They signed Griezmann and Joao Félix respectvely and are expecting plenty of net-bulging between them.

The majority are arriving from outside of LaLiga but are well known in Spain. Adrián (Osasuna), Joselu (Alavés), Roberto Soldado (Granada) and Lucas Pérez (Alavés) are all familiar with LaLiga.

Seven strikers have moved between LaLiga clubs (Álex Alegría, Juan Muñoz, Quique González y Marc Cardona and four have arrived from leagues lower down the ladder (Álex Alegría, Juan Muñoz, Quique González and Marc Cardona). Players getting second chances, star signings and young promises will succeed or not based on how they fare in front of goal.
