Jose Mourinho lands new job
The former Real Madrid and Chelsea boss will return to the footballing world in another capacity as he patiently waits for the right coaching role to come up.
Jose Mourinho will make the return to his beloved football, however not in a coaching role… but rather as a pundit for British broadcaster Sky.
In an interview for Sky Sports News that was released earlier this week, the Portuguese coach confessed he was desperately missing football and patiently waiting for the right coaching role to come up.
The ex-Real Madrid boss even admitted that he has added new members to his backroom staff as he looks to change and adapt his methods ahead of his eventual return to the coach’s bench.
But in the meantime, Mourinho will join Sky Sports' punditry team, which already consists of fellow footballing legends Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Graeme Souness and Jamie Redknapp, for the 2019/20 season.
“The Premier League is a special competition for me, one that takes so much hard work to win and you just can't take your eyes off the matches every week,” said Mourinho.
“Sky Sports is the home of the Premier League and it's a pleasure for me to join this team and help to understand and explain what happened in each match. Football is a huge passion, it means so much to the fans, and I look forward to being part of the Premier League with them until I return to my place on the touchline.”
Mourinho’s first game will be Man Utd-Chelsea
Mourinho’s first appearance in the Sky Sports studio as a pundit for the 2019/20 season will aptly be for the clash between two of his former clubs, Chelsea and Manchester United – and no doubt many fans will tune into hear what their former coach has to say to regarding the fixture and current situations of both clubs.
Mourinho had two managerial stints at Chelsea (2004-2007; 2013-2016), where he won three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and three League Cups, before joining Manchester United in 2016. The two-time Champions League-winning coach guided the Red Devils to Europa League glory in 2016/17, followed by an impressive second-place Premier League finish in 2017/18.
But after a disappointing first half to the 2018/19 season and a well-documented fall-out with senior players including Paul Pogba, Mourinho was sacked by the Old Trafford board in December and replaced by former player and fan favourite, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Since his dismissal, Mourinho has done some television work for BeIN Sports, and the always outspoken coach is now set to become a regular fixture in the Sky Sports studio over the course of the season, where his unique insights and analysis will be a major draw for viewers.
