Liverpool could be without goalkeeper Alisson Becker for up to two months after the Brazilian suffered a calf muscle injury on the opening day of the Premier League season. Alisson slipped while taking a goal-kick in Friday’s 4-1 win over Norwich. The 26-year-old, who played a key role for the team last season – setting a new club clean sheets record, is believed to have ruptured his right calf muscle. While the club has yet to offer an update on Alisson’s calf injury, it looks like it’s a Grade II tear which will keep him out for four to six weeks. The Brazil international will miss Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup meeting with Chelsea and the league games against Southampton, Arsenal, Burnley and Newcastle – and possibly the Week 6 and 7 games against Chelsea and Sheffield as well. Jürgen Klopp will also have to field an alternative goalkeeper for MatchDay 1 of the Champions League on 17/18 September.

Adrián makes Reds debut

Liverpool only recently signed Spanish goalkeeper Adrián San Miguel as Alisson’s deputy after Simon Mignolet left to join Club Brugge last week. Adrián made his debut for the Reds in unexpected circumstances coming on for the injured Alisson on Friday. While the 32-year-old has experience in LaLiga and the Premier League from his time at Betis and West Ham, he has no experience in European competition and it looks like Liverpool will prepare for every possibility and bring in an extra keeper as a precaution.

Lonergan tipped to sign one-year contract

Ex-Preston, Leeds and Bolton goalkeeper Andy Lonergan is reported to be negotiating with Liverpool, who will offer him a one-year contract. Klopp’s other goalkeepers Loris Karius and Kamil Grabara are out on loan at Besiktas and Huddersfield Town respectively. Lonergan, 35, travelled with the first team squad for this summer’s United States tour and is eligible to join after the closure of the transfer window as he is out of contract.
