Real Madrid could recover Ødegaard from Real Sociedad loan in June
AMAIA ZABALODIARIO AS

Martin Ødegaard has got his loan spell at Real Sociedad off to a blistering start. He opened his account in style this evening against Mallorca at Son Moix to give the txuri-urdin all three points and could have been awarded a penalty. That will come as pleasing news at Real Madrid, who will be delighted to see the Norwegian midfielder gaining regular playing time and  adapting quickly and easily to life in LaLiga. If he continues at the level he is showing, Madrid could even bring him back early from his loan next season. Ødegaard is under contract at Real Sociedad for this season with the option of a second year. The possibility of a second season on loan is a pact between the two clubs and not written into the contract as an act of faith between Madrid and La Real who have an excellent relationship. If Madrid want Ødegaard back at the Bernabéu for the 2020-21 season, there won't be any problem - they extended the player's contract to 2022 before loaning him out…

Ødegaard will even have the chance to show Zidane and Madrid fans how much he has progressed when Real Sociedad are guests in the capital in Week 14 and again when the donostiarras play host in Week 30. The Norwegian midfielder originally had a fear clause written into his contract but Madrid recently decided to do away with prohibiting their loan players from playing against them (Kubo, Lunin, Mayoral…).

Odegaard: “I feel very proud to have scored my first goal in LaLiga”

After the Mallorca game, Ødegaard expressed his joy at scoring his first goal in the Spanish top flight: “I feel very proud to have scored my first goal in LaLiga with Real Sociedad,” he told reporters. “For me, It's very important to help my team gain a victory from a very complicated game - one in which we suffered to get a result; I'm very happy. It's been a very special game, the one in which I scored my first goal".

Ødegaard relived his goal which handed the Basque outfit a 0-2 win - their first win of the season. “It was a good counter attack with the whiole team involved, we took the ball forward well, Portu put me straight through on goal and I managed to control the ball and put it away. It didn't seem too dificult for me, it wasn't the most difficult goal to score. Of course it's great to score but it doesn't take any of the pressure off - it's not about that anyway. It's just something which helped the team to win the game and that's the most important thing. Obviously I would like to succeed at Real Madrid but that is the future, it will arrive when the time comes. For now, I am only focused on Real Sociedad and succeeding here, doing well for La Real, where I am very happy; after that, we'll see what happens with Real Madrid”.
