Real Madrid: "Benzema keeps shutting people's mouths"

Jérémy Ménez, a teammate of the Real Madrid striker in the France youth sides, believes the Frenchman's record at the Bernabéu speaks for itself.

Real Madrid: "Benzema keeps shutting people's mouths"

Karim Benzema has spent his career “shutting mouths” and should be applauded for his 10 years at Real Madrid, according to his former France youth teammate and current Paris FC forward Jérémy Ménez.

Benzema has faced no shortage of criticism during his career, not least from his own fans and occasionally, as was the case with José Mourinho, from his coach as well but the Frenchman has still racked up an impressive tally for the club and continues to prove his doubters wrong, according to Ménez.

"Few players last 10 years at Real Madrid"

“You can only admire his career,” Ménez told French media outlet Foot Mercato. “Few players have lasted 10 years at Real Madrid. In spite of everything that has been said about him, he’s still there, working hard and shutting people’s mouths.”

Benzema joined Madrid from Lyon in July 2009 for a fee of €35 million and has a record of 228 goals and 126 assists in 474 games for the club, placing him sixth on the all-time scorer’s list behind Ferenc Puskas, who the Frenchman will catch this season at his current rate. In seven league games Benzema has scored six goals to lead the Pichichi standing alongside Villarreal’s Gerard Moreno and Betis forward Loren.
