Pochettino-Bayern links re-intensify in Germany
The German press have been weighing up the possibility of Maurizio Pochetinno taking up the vacant permanent job at Bayern Munich following his Tottenham dismissal.
Mauricio Pochettino’s sacking as Tottenham coach has re-intensified links between the Argentine coach and Bayern Munich.
Following the announcement that Jose Mourinho would replace Pochettino with immediate effect, several members of the German press have speculated on the possibility of the latter becoming the new Bayern boss as soon as January.
Bayern are currently on the looking for a new coach following the dismissal of Niko Kovac earlier this month and the club’s sports director Hasan Salihamidzic is reportedly an admirer of the former Spurs manager.
Factors that could rule Pochettino out at Bayern
However, some members of the German press have also cited factors that may rule out the possibility of Pochettino landing at the Allianz Arena.
One is the fact that the Argentine coach does not speak German, which is understood to be an indispensable requirement for the Bayern board.
Meanwhile, newspaper Munich TZ has reported that there is a section at Bayern who do not like the idea of Pochettino arriving with his own-speaking backroom staff as it would create a kind of “club within the club”.
Munich TZ makes reference to a similar situation that occurred with Carlo Ancelotti. Despite winning the Bundesliga in his first season, Ancelotti and his assistants always seemed to be a foreign entity at the Bavarian club, the German news outlet argues.
Meanwhile, president of the Bayern board has said that the current interim coach Hansi Flick will remain in office at least until Christmas and has not ruled out the former Germany assistant to Joachim Low staying until the end of the season.
