Title holders River Plate are four-time winners of the Copa Libertadores while their opponents on Saturday Flamengo, have only won it once - way back in 1981 but Millionarios boss Marcelo Gallardo insisted on the eve of the game that "history won't come into it" as far as his team are concerned - and the bookies agree. After starting out as slight underdogs, Flamengo are now the favourites to lift the trophy in Lima. The Brazilians, managed by Jorge Jesus (who football fans in Europe will know from his time at the helm with Benfica), are unbeaten in 25 games - including a 5-0 thrashing of fellow countrymen Grêmio on their way to the final.

River meanwhile, breezed through the group stage without defeat before seeing off Cruzeiro, Cerro Porteño and Boca Juniors in the knockout rounds. Gallardo is an experienced campaigner who knows how to handle pressure on the big stage and also how to guide his players through it. It will be a battle between two of the big-hitting nations in South American football - Brazil and Argentina and a contest between two teams with contrasting styles - River, who use a classic 4-4-2 set-up against Fla, who have perfected a 4-1-3-2 system devised and employed by Jorge Jesus, who could become only the second European coach to win this trophy should his team prevail.
