The worst Champions League manager in history
UEFA's showpiece tournament pits the best teams in the world against each other, but some managers have been less successful than others.
After losing 2-0 to Zenit St Petersburg on Wednesday evening, Olympique Lyon found their qualification bid for the knockout stages of the Champions League rather complicated. And it was a result that confirmed their manager, Rudi García, as statistically the worst coach in the continental competition.
Garcia struggles in Champions League
In the history of the Champions League, which took on its current name in 1992, Garcia has been in charge of 27 games, with Lille, Roma and Lyon. In that time he has just the five victories and has an average record of 0.85 points per game (h/t Opta Jean), incredible given his managerial experience.
Rudi García replaced Sylvinho on the Lyon bench in October and although in Ligue 1 the side (in 9th after 14 games) is just six points behind second placed Marseille, getting out of their European group will depend on the final match. It's a winner takes all clash against RB Leipzig with a draw not enough for the French club.
