Tuchel defuses Mbappé situation: "He never likes being subbed"
There was another moment of tension between Mbappé and Tuchel over substitutions. The PSG coach spoke about the incident in his press conference.
Thomas Tuchel attempted to defuse the tension which arose after he decided to take Kylian Mbappé off in yesterday's Ligue 1 meeting with Montpellier. The striker blanked the coach as he made his way back to the dug-out on 90 minutes, after he had been replaced by Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting - a player who has only played two full games this season and has only recently returned from a back injury.
In his post-match press conference, Tuchel said he could understand why Mbappé was annoyed and played down the incident. "Mbappé never wants to be substituted – it’s understandable, and it’s quite obvious. He didn’t want to be taken off in the Nantes games and he didn’t want to come off today. On 90 minutes, I decided to take him off but now it's all been forgotten about. It was my decision. Choupo deserved to play - we need to respect that and that is in line with the decisions I take. Mbappé isn't happy when he's substituted but it's no big deal".
