João Félix: "more than four clubs willing to pay €120m release"
Atlético Madrid's Andrea Berta thanked the young Portuguese star's family for choosing his development over an even bigger pay day.
João Félix received the Golden Boy award on Monday, which is given to the best under-21 European player by Italian outlet Tuttosport. The Portuguese star attended the gala along with his family and also various representatives of his club, Atlético Madrid.
Félix development over money
Andrea Berta was one of those who kept a close eye on the rojiblanco youngster - who has ambitions of playing with compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo - and then spoke to the media about him.
"There were more than four clubs willing to pay the release clause (120 million euros) for João Félix," the sports director told Tuttomercato.
The Spanish club thanked the player's family for helping with the decision based on solid reasons.
“We had to convince the player and his family, who opted for growth [for Félix] over their bank account. We thank them for choosing Atlético.”
