Areola: Made a couple of important stops in the second half when Unionistas were looking for an equaliser - 7.

Nacho: Plugged in for the entirety of the game. Suffered when Unionistas got on top of Casemiro and have to cover for Militao - 7.

Carvajal: Pushed back and forced to stay there to make room for Bale and James on the right. Defensively solid and disciplined - 7.

Casemiro: Improved as the game went on. Unionistas success depended on how the Brazilian defended them - 6.

Benzema: Back in the starting team. Linked well a number of times with Valverde. Had a couple of dangerous shots with no luck but he really wanted to score. Taken off after 75 minutes for Jovic - 7.

Vinicius: Carried on from his good performance with a similarly lively performance on Wednesday night. The end product is still not there but he is growing in confidence and continues to trust his dribbling skills. A couple of dangerous balls into the box turned into nothing but he was active - 8.

Substitutes

Brahim Diaz: Player of the game despite only playing for 35 minutes. He played with purpose and had that cutting edge Madrid were lacking. Hit both posts and still manage a lovely goal along with forcing the second. Gave Zidane plenty to think about - 9.

Luka Jovic: Came on for the last 15 minutes. Ran, fought and attacked the area but nothing really to show for it.

Isco: Came on for James after 80 minutes and didn't have enough time to make an impact.
