Cavani: Atlético signing imminent - player sources
AS has spoken with a source close to Cavani, who confirmed that the player's agent is in Madrid and that "everything could be resolved" as soon as Monday evening.
Edinson Cavani is just hours away from signing for Atlético Madrid.
AS has spoken with a source from the player’s camp, who has stated that "everything will be decided" this Monday.
The source also confirmed that the player’s agent is in the Spanish capital to negotiate the conditions of his contract with Atlético. This means that the club would have already reached an agreement with PSG that would allow him to leave. According to L’Equipe, Atléti’s last offer was 15 million euros plus add-ons.
Cavani could line out against Real Madrid
Contrary to reports, Cavani has not passed a medical examination with Atlético, neither in Paris nor Madrid, the AS source confirmed.
“But they can be sure that there will be no problem with Edinson's medical test, because he is in perfect condition after recovering from the small muscle discomfort he had a few weeks ago,” the source explained.
If the Cavani operation is closed on Monday, Atlético would likely announce his signing on Tuesday or Wednesday, once he has passed a medical. The Wanda Metropolitano outfit are not ruling out the possibility of the Uruguayan striker lining out against Real Madrid on Saturday at the Bernabéu, given there are no setbacks.
Cavani signing would be major boost for Simeone
The arrival of Cavani would be a major boost for Atlético coach Diego Simeone, who has long wanted to sign the Uruguayan striker.
Atlético have struggled for goals this season, and it is hoped that Cavani’s proven scoring ability (198 goals in 293 games for PSG) will address the issue. Currently in fifth place in LaLiga, Los Rojiblancos have managed just 22 goals from 21 games, putting them 12th in the leader board in terms of goals scored.
Meanwhile, as the signing Cavani draws closer, Atlético are also negotiating the exit of Thomas Lamar, whose sale would help to finance the deal for the PSG star.
