The Al Thumama Stadium exterior is now complete

Works to complete the Al Thumama Stadium, one of the grounds for the Qatar 2022 World Cup and a symbol of Qatari and Arab culture, are on schedule, with the exterior design of the structure now finished.

The stadium design and surrounding areas

Al-Thumama is designed in the style of a “gahfiya”, a traditional headdress worn by men in Arab countries, particularly in the Gulf region. In the vicinity of the stadium there is also a wing of the Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital, the services of which will be rendered beyond the 2022 World Cup, given that its reputation has made it a reference point for sports people from around the world.

The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), the authority responsible for Qatar 2022 World Cup initiatives, has published new, recently taken photos of Al-Thumama, displaying the newly completed stadium exterior following work to raise the iron roof and put the finished touches on the exterior motifs.

In the overall view afforded by the photos, the stadium is clearly entering its final stages and, in the short term, will be ready alongside the other stadiums to be unveiled this year.

The Education City, Al Bayt, Al Thumama and Al Rayyan Stadiums

The Secretary-General of the Legacy Review Committee, Hassan Al Thawady, announced the opening of the Education City and Al Bayt Stadiums in the middle of this year, and is certain that both the Al Thumama and Al Rayyan Stadiums will follow suit and will be unveiled six months later, when the indoor facilities, pitch and remaining works will be finished.

Al Thumama will host World Cup games until the quarter-final stage and is one of the stadiums built exclusively for the competition, with its capacity to be reduced by half when the tournament concludes.
