Alexander-Arnold: "Madrid holds good memories but we've got a job to do tomorrow"

Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold looked relaxed as he attended the media this evening , on the eve of tomorrow's meeting with Atlético Madrid. The defender recognised the progression that the team had been through over the past two years and was full of praise for team mates Joe Gomez and Alisson.

Alexander-Arnold insisted that while it's inevitable that stepping out onto the pitch at the Metropolitano will bring memories flodding back for the European champions, last June triumph in the final against Spurs is firmly in the past and the Reds are completely focused on this year's challenges. "Obviously, it's a stadium which holds good memories for us. It's where a lot of our dreams came true but we can't focus too much on the past  - we have a job to do tomorrow and our aim is to win these types of trophies and keep going as much as possible in these competitions. Our next step is trying to get a result tomorrow, we know it'll be difficult and that's all we are focusing on. We're not focused on last June, we're focused on what'll happen tomorrow. Nothing has really changed for us because we go into every game with the same mentality" the full-back explained.

"We want to achieve as much as possible and those feelings are hard to come by - we want to make the most of it while we can", Alexander-Arnold continued. "We respect our opponent as much as we can. We understand what kind of team we are going to face. If our mentality is right and our commitment is right then we have a good chance of winning our games, whatever competition we are playing in. We understand what it takes to reach the final, we need to be 100% all the time".

Liverpool are learning and evolving, says Trent

Jürgen Klopp and his coachig staff have ironed out the weak spots which impeded Liverpool from lifting silverware in past seasons and the results of that hard work are clear to see today. "We've adapted as a team over the past two years and many of the different teams we were coming up against and all of the different tactics, now we are able to counter it and adapt during the game. We were up against a similar formation that we are going to face tomorrow at the weekend. We understand what we are going to face and it'll be very difficult but we're going into it with a gameplan - we know what we need to do. We're leaning from our experience and from mistakes. I wouldn't say that we had a psychological edge but we're confident. It's just about doing what we know and what we're good at".
